Job searches are one of the most soul destroying processes known to mankind.

They include trying to capture your 30, or 22 or 45 years of life on two pieces of paper.  No pictures to say 1000 words allowed.  Just a header, a few categories, and a hand full of sentences.  Oh, and bullets.

They’re not so bad, I suppose, when you work in an assembly line where your job description reads:  work at machine ‘x’ for 3 years.  They’re a little more tricky when your job involves people.

It doesn’t help any that everyone I MEAN EVERYONE uses the line “Good with people.” on their  resume.

What if you really are good?  Nevermind.  It doesn’t matter.

My Father-in-law just sent me some great advice: “Always have a minimum of two job applications out there.  Never try to do it one at a time – that puts too much stress on a single application.”

It’s basic farming, really.  Although, the farmers usually reference eggs and baskets to illustrate the same point.

It’s really a life principle, isn’t it?  It speaks to managing expectations.

It also speaks to understanding people.   Put out TWO thoughts in your head when listening to someone speak.  Two ideas of what you think they might be trying to say. It will double your odds of really understanding what they’re getting at.  Then listen to them and see if either of your ideas is substantiated by what they say. If no.  Well, start again.

My father-in-law hedged his bets with me as I am his second son-in-law.  Way to go, David.
