Good tips - the 3 day rule has never been an option for me so I adjust. Maybe because i dont stay with or know any yidish, german, swedish, japanese or french family. Plain old canadian bacon. One proactive thing I do is to not make it about me. Escape - go bowling, skating, etc - just get out and break up the 3 day routines.

I have learned there are four kinds of holidays. One where you visit family on their turf(yes, the most stressfull as you have to adapt to all their timeframes and habits)(by the way the complexity goes up dramticaly when it is in-laws), #2 is with your own tribe (wife/kids), this one is all about being for the kids, #3 is with the wife - best one. Fourth is the by yourself... So for me, the christmas holidays that go past 3 days, I fit in some #4 time where I can do tip #6
